Tragic but hilarious true stories detailing the struggles of pooing into a bag for life.

To anyone wanting a speedy read that will have you laughing out loud but also reflecting on your interactions with friends & strangers throughout – Sh*t Happens is a brilliant reminder to consider the mental health side effects of the physical illnesses we throw pills & prescriptions at every day. So much respect for describing the behind closed doors struggles of anyone managing an invisible health condition day after day – would definitely add to your reading lists for the cosy autumn eves to come 🍂📚

A truly honest and laugh out loud journey with Jack. It’s a really influential book in a small package that’s short enough for an afternoon read but sticks in the memory. Well done and looking forward to reading more of your work.

It’s no exaggeration to say that this book produced laughter and tears in equal measure. An unpretentious, engaging account of a serious illness, but presented with an amusing irreverence. I read this in one sitting, and thoroughly enjoyed it!
Tom Golledge –

A wonderful read that really puts things in perspective. Not only hilarious but an incredibly brave and honest recount of a sh*tty situation (be warned the writing style might rub off on you). It was a privilege to get to read this!
George Gillings –
Have never read something quite like this. Something that is able to capture the highs and lows of life with a bag whilst maintaining a consistent level of humour throughout. Anyone who is having/has/had a stoma bag NEEDS to read this. I know I’m very glad I did.

This was the most frank and human book I’ve ever read. Jack’s writing style is as gripping as it is gut-wrenching – I was loath to put the book down! It is an amazing insight into life with a rare chronic condition which I know a lot of people can empathise, sympathise, and understand. I wish more books were as honest and open as this!! It is books like this through which we can connect and understand eachother

Jack writes his story honestly and puts a fantastically funny spin on what is a serious and often mis understood disease. A must read for anyone with IBD or anyone who knows someone with IBD! Well done Jack! Can’t wait to read the next one.

Humorous, sad and enlightening. Most importantly, jack’s book will no doubt help many others facing similar experiences.

A wonderfully clever, incredibly witty and very real capture of a ride with this chronic illness. A tough but must read for anyone wanting to laugh, cry and learn. Jack, your resilience is inspiring and your writing is captivating!

What a great read! A really eye opening book about what it is like living with a bag. Somehow, brilliantly, making light of a serious condition. This book is an inspiration to anyone, not just those with a bag, to persevere and stay strong through any tough times!
Lesley Collins –
What a brave book! An honest account of a difficult journey from the onset of confusing symptoms to eventual diagnosis and surgery for UC. He unlocks the mystery of the stoma bag and I’m sure this book will be much appreciated by anyone who finds themselves in the same situation. The open letter at the end throws a light on the lack of holistic approach in the NHS…..in many areas. Mental health is talked about a lot now but currently funding is woefully inadequate. A thoroughly enlightening book written with honesty and humour.

Quite a page-turner! Once you start it, you won’t be able to stop, so be forewarned! The author managed to write a book which is both sad and moving, and also outrageously (quite literally) funny and witty. A very solid read. Would recommend it to anyone, especially if they are in need of a bit of distance and perspective.

This book is written by surely the world’s first sh*t activist! I have close relatives affected by related conditions and found the book so insightful and helpful, let alone so witty, punny and enjoyable. I seriously salute the author who is brave to share his story – for a good cause – like all good activism, even sh*t activism 🙂
